Yes, the old colonisers have gone...but the mindset remains in every babu....Like Paulo Freire said, the oppressed carry the oppressor in their head.....Well written dear Rinald...thanks and congratulations ....George
Thank you for adding this insight from Paulo Freire. So much of the logic of the coloniser still remains ingrained within us and we need to constantly pursue our freedom and of those we serve. I just reread those lines from Freire's classic, Pedagogy of the Oppressed:
“The oppressed, having internalized the image of the oppressor and adopted his guidelines, are fearful of freedom. Freedom would require them to eject this image and replace it with autonomy and responsibility. Freedom is acquired by conquest, not by gift. It must be pursued constantly and responsibly. Freedom is not an ideal located outside of man; nor is it an idea which becomes myth. It is rather the indispensable condition for the quest for human completion.”
I liked the entire neo-colonial perspective to the effects and the response experienced by the battered continent. Closer to home however one can explore the entire caste narrative and how we as a country have responded to the pandemic.
